- HOW IS CJA GOVERNED?
CJA is governed by a 26-member Executive Board. Board members represent regions or court levels, and serve three-year terms. The officers are elected by the Board, and serve for one year. CJA’s program & administrative year begins at the Annual Meeting in September/October. The fiscal year begins October 1st.
The work of CJA is accomplished by standing committees which plan conferences, review legislation, staff hot lines, conduct programs in public information, oversee insurance and compensation programs, etc. Committees are largely voluntary, and members are reimbursed for direct expenses of travel.
CJA also maintains a 501(c)(3) foundation, the California Judges Foundation, to fund special conference speakers, publications, and public information projects of the association.
