The calculator can help you get an estimate of the potential value of your future Monetary Credit Account Balance. Your Monetary Credits accrue at the rate of 18% of your monthly salary and the interest earned on the fund’s investment. If you leave the bench before earning a defined benefit, and you have at least 5 years of service, you will receive the balance of your Monetary Credits. You can choose to take a direct refund or make a tax free rollover to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA).

The calculator requires you to input your current Monetary Credit Account Balance. Select your level of court by using the drop down box. You can then choose to select a rate of salary increases or, to be conservative, you can choose no increases via the drop down box. The assumed rate of return is 7%.

If you need to find out your current Monetary Credit Account Balance go to www.CalPERS.ca.gov. Click on the tab my/CalPERS and register for access to your personal account. If you experience any difficulty please call the JRS at 916-795-3688 and they will gladly walk you through the process.

If you are interested in calculating a defined benefit retirement because you plan to retire after 20 or more years of service after age 65 (JRS II) or older, or if you will reach age 70 with at least 5 years of service, you can go to www.CalPERS.ca.gov and set up the defined benefit calculator by clicking on the “Edit Your View” in the “Members” ribbon. Then click the “Next” button at the bottom of the page. On this page click “Judge Elected or Appointed After November 9, 1994.” Click “Next”. Then click “Confirm” on the following page.

Now you are back to the main CalPERS web page where you can click on “Retirement Estimate Calculator”. Follow the prompts to calculate your defined benefit retirement allowance.
